It was nice to hear that local butchers are seeing increases in sales following the horsemeat debacle.
I just hope the new customers stick with them and don’t drift back to the supermarkets.
Supporting your local butchers is a win-win because you are supporting the local economy, not only the butcher’s business, but local farmers – and in addition you are getting much better quality meat.
The quality is evident in the taste but, if you want a more obvious demonstration, try a comparison with grilling bacon rashers. There will be virtually nothing in your grill pan from the butcher’s rashers, but it will be swimming with a watery-looking fluid after the supermarket bacon.
Conclusion? Supermarket bacon costs less, but you end up buying a load of salty water.
