WOMEN’S and children’s campaigner Andrea Beavon is running the Jedburgh half- marathon on Sunday in honour of a late friend.
The Violence Against Women and Domestic Abuse coordinator at Scottish Borders Council is also raising money for Asthma UK.
Andrea said: “Earlier this year I lost a very dear friend, Mandy Young, without warning, and I now want to honour her memory. She was a motivator and enabler, and throughout our friendship she always encouraged me to push personal and professional boundaries, to strive to grow, develop and seek to understand the bigger picture.”
Andrea, who lives in Bowden, started training for Sunday’s 13-mile run back in July, never having run before.
“Finishing the half-marathon won’t bring Mandy back, but it will go some way to ensuring something positive comes from our collective loss,” she said.
Andrea, who is following a 12-week training programme and doing zumba twice a week, has raised £700 so far and hopes to make £1,000.
“Running to honour Mandy’s memory has really motivated me,” she said.
