Home Basics, the Borders’ furniture recycling charity is celebrating a recent award of £61,496 from the Big Lottery to develop its services to those people most in need in the region.

The new funding will allow the charity to continue to expand its operation at its depots in Walkerburn and Hawick. This will include the provision of a new van to collect furniture donations and deliver items sold, as well as provision of a new PAT tester and PAT testing equipment which will enable the charity to accept more white goods which are always in heavy demand.

In Hawick, the new funding will allow the expansion of its retail premises at Units 1 & 2 Annfield Mill in Teviot Crescent, which has recently opened and allows for a much larger variety of stock to be displayed.

Manager, Dennis Fisher commented: “We are absolutely delighted to receive this award. the new unit is now open for business to anyone looking for good quality, low priced furniture.”
