A GALASHIELS promoter will be remembered with a reunion of a nightclub he used to run.

Andy Darling died in August 2009 after a long and brave battle with breast cancer, and a Bonds Reunion night on Saturday, April 2, will raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The Complete Stone Roses will headline in the Volunteer Hall, alongside a mystery DJ and band, and local DJs Neil Collins, Neil Rankin, Derrick Sewell, Steve Cass and Justin Wilson.

David Mciver, a former workmate and friend of Andy, has helped to organise the event. He said: “I knew Andy from 18. Andy was a brilliant guy with a heart of gold, and he did so much for the town of Gala as well as the Borders, whilst bringing a lot of people together. Andy and Neil Collins brought Bonds to Gala and never looked back. At Bonds’ height, its atmosphere and ambience were the best I have ever experienced. It was jumping with people from all over the Borders.”

David hopes to make the Bonds Reunion an annual event: “I would love it to get bigger and better every year – to remember both Andy and the venue. Bonds had a close-knit workforce who all loved working in the club.”

David went on: “I remember one staff party where we had a three-legged race (drunk of course) where we had to run round the town. Of course it was mayhem, but a big highlight.”

Tickets are priced at £10 in advance or £12 on the door. They are available from Move nightclub, Studio Hairdressers, Guess What?, High Buckholmside newsagents and Jenn Laing and Stephanie Ruddie of Heriot-Watt University student union.

Alternatively, phone David on 07957 494233, or Finlay Hogg on 07814 406485.

Doors open at 7pm.
