Anguish over abattoir plan

I read last week’s article about the Galashiels abattoir plans and share the concerns of the Scottish Borders Chamber of Commerce.

Considering how many sheep and cattle one sees in the Borders, I am surprised that George Deans claims that not enough animals are going through the gates of the abattoir to keep it viable.

No mention is made of the stress that cattle and sheep will suffer if they have to travel all the way to Shotts or Wishaw.

As a supporter of Compassion in World Farming, I utterly deplore this proposal and hope that it will never be implemented.
