Ambitions derailed

We moved to the Borders five years ago from Manchester and I would love to get out of the house more and perhaps do some voluntary work to get to know local people.

However, as Newcastleton has no railway, this is not possible. It takes too long to get anywhere without a car. I can neither afford nor want a car.

I know many professional people who prefer to travel by train as they can work while travelling, which you cannot do in a car.
