Our photographer, the effervescent Alastair Watson, died on Monday just a few weeks after his 60th birthday.

He was diagnosed with terminal cancer two months ago and took the decision he would die at home in his beloved Coldstream.

Alastair is survived by his wife Meg, son Gareth and daughter Michelle.

He has been with the Tweeddale Press Group since 1976.

Michael Moore MP described him as part of the Borders landscape.

Enthusiasm, sharp wit, dedication and love of his expanding family were true marks of his character.

His life and his work will be recorded in next week’s issue. His funeral is at Coldstream Parish Church next Thursday at 1pm, followed by burial at nearby Lennel. He requested no black ties.
