Air cadets from Galashiels were on cloud nine when they met and chatted to six-times Olympic gold medallist Sir Chris Hoy, pictured, when he attended his first air cadet event since being appointed as the uniformed youth organisation’s honorary ambassador.

Cpl Ryan Stockman, Hawick; Sgt Aaron Kerr, Melrose; and Cpl Calum Brydon Leigh, Blainslie, were among hundreds of cadets attending the Scotland and Northern Ireland Annual Regional Field Day, which was held in Fife, and which saw the Olympic hero proudly parade in his RAF uniform for the first time.

Sir Chris, or Group Captain Hoy MBE of the RAF Volunteer Reserve (Training) Branch to give him his correct title, came face-to-face with the cadets, who were delighted to meet their new ambassador and took the opportunity to chat to the cycling legend.
