A duty to get value for taxpayers’ cash

You can take with a pinch of salt the remarks made by Alex Orr in his letter last week about benefit cuts.

The cuts inferred are a proposal only and will never get past the starting post. Alex Orr knows this, but will scaremonger anyway and try and score a point for his nationalist masters.

It is any government’s duty to get value for taxpayers’ money. Benefits culture has become a lifestyle choice for many. This kind of spending and culture is unsustainable in the medium to long term.

In Scotland we have free prescriptions, free health care for the elderly, free bus passes for the over-60s, scrapping of bridge tolls etc.

This has to come out of the pockets of taxpayers.

I’m retired myself, but that does not mean I should not contribute to society. The same goes for people on benefits or any other type of income for that matter.
