On SATURDAY and Sunday, May 14 and 15, BBC Radio 1 brought its Big Weekend to Carlisle, just south of the border.

The world’s biggest free festival brought even bigger names to the area including: Foo Fighters, Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars, Black Eyed Peas, Panic At The Disco and many more.

We, the YOB team, were lucky enough to have two of our very own writers – Ruairidh Tait and Alan Wise – win tickets to the event. The pair won tickets for the Saturday and both said that it was one of the best days of their lives.

Not only did they get to see the likes of Tinie Tempah, Black Eyed Peas and headliners Foo Fighters perform live on stage, they also got to meet some of the Radio 1 presenters including Matt Edmondson, Edith Bowman and Aled Hayden Jones.

Ruairidh said: “The Radio 1 presenters we met were very down to earth and were very happy to chat with us. As for the performances, they were top-notch and I would love to do it all over again.”

On the Sunday, all eyes were on Gaga as she gave the closing performance which was said to be the best of them all.

The Big Weekend is one that will likely never be forgotten for those that went along and something for those to look forward to in the town that it lands in next year.
