A GROUP of young mountain bikers got their gloves on for a litter pick at Glentress – and filled a pick-up truck in only one hour.
Twenty volunteers – aged 6 to 17 – from Peebles Cycle Club's Kids Club set to work clearing up the freeride area of the forest.

Disappointed that their Saturday morning fun was spoiled by litter left lying around, the group contacted the local Forestry Commission Scotland team with the idea of organising a litter pick.

Andy Weir, for the commission at Glentress, said: "This was a fantastic effort by the Kids Club and we were happy to help out by providing, gloves, bags and our 7Stanes pick-up truck.

"The litter pick has made a huge difference to the site and everyone who comes here has noticed the improvement.

"It's a minority of people who are responsible for the littering – so hopefully they will now dispose of litter properly or take it home."

The litter pick won the support of other riders, who were happy to wait for the area to be re-opened once the group had finished their work.

The morning was a great success – but everyone hopes it never has to happen again.
