A wide circle of friends, work colleagues and others who knew her well from her many activities gathered at the funeral service in Melrose Parish Church for Jackie Russell, of Darnick, who died untimely after a long fight with illness.
The Rev. A. Bennett recounted a life spent in the Borders, but also in RAF stations with husband Bruce (and eventually three daughters) at home and abroad, a working life in a lawyer’s firm in Melrose, an interest in golf, a long commitment to the work of the local branch of Arthritis and Rheumatism Research and a personal willingness to help the medical profession in the treatment of ovarian cancer.

This last difficult time could not obscure the bright spirit in which that life was led or the pride in being a wife, mother and grandmother – all of which was worthy of celebration by the large number of people who had come to pay their respects and give their support.
