SCOTLAND'S Conservative leader Annabel Goldie has said voters in the Borders can influence who runs Britain after the General Election.
But she has warned that if they want to ditch Gordon Brown they shouldn't vote for the Lib Dems or SNP.
Miss Goldie was in Hawick pressing the flesh in support for Westminster candidate, the local MSP John Lamont.
She commented : "As I travel around the country, it is increasingly clear to me that people are crying out for a change in Government.
"With the election being a clear choice between Gordon Brown's Labour Party and David Cameron's Conservatives, voters in the Borders have a real chance to influence who forms the next Government.
"A vote for any other party risks stopping the change which our country needs. "
During her visit Miss Goldie met traders in Hawick and expressed concern at the number of empty shops throughout the Borders.
Mr Lamont commented : "She was left in no doubt that Hawick needs a new Government as much as the rest of the country."
