JEDBURGH faces a dental crisis as the town looks set to lose one of its two practices after no replacement was found for a soon-to-be retired dentist.
Ken Simpson of Simpsons Dental Practice is set to quit in January next year, leaving GM Hamilton as the sole dentist in a town with a population of just over 4,000.

In a letter circulated to his patients, Mr Simpson said: "I am writing with great reluctance to give you advance notice that I am retiring from the practice on January 29, 2010 due to continued and deteriorating ill health.

"Regrettably, I have been unable to find anyone interested in buying or taking over the dental practice and will have to put the surgery up for sale with potential for conversion to a flat."

Roxburgh and Berwickshire MSP John Lamont has asked NHS Borders to step in to avert hundreds of Mr Simpson's current patients being left without a dentist.
