SIX members of the Lauderdale/ Equibuddie vaulting group based at Greenlaw have returned from a highly-successful trip to the first international of the season in Saumur, France.

The vaulters were competing as part of the Scottish equestrian vaulting team which is made up from the best vaulters in the country.

Gemma Hope (Coldstream), Ross Foreman (Duns) and Jim Pate (Earlston) were part of the seven-strong senior team. Competing on Baroque, owned and lunged by John Eccles, the squad performed a solid set of compulsories followed by two rounds of perfect freestyle to the music of Robbie Williams.

They finished in second place with two scores of more than nine for freestyle.

This year, the team are aiming for selection for the European Championships in Hungary, as well as taking part in another international in the Czech Republic and an invitation-only event in Aachen, Germany, in July.

Lauderdale/Equibuddie vaulters were well represented in the junior team also.

James Miller (Coldstream), Angus Runciman (Lauder) and Stacey Macpherson (Eccles) were the strong base to a very young team. Many of the team were competing in their first full international. Their horse, Master Key took to his task well, carrying the team to a very creditable second place. The junior team's next aim is the selection trials, firstly in Wales then Scotland, followed hopefully by the European Championships in Hungary.

A strong squad of 16 vaulters from the group will be heading to Wales on May 5 and 6.

Anybody who feels they can help the squad with these trips should get in touch with Rebecca Morgan on becsmorgan@hotmail.com.
