Pigeon fancier Stan Sudlow of Jedburgh displays the Scottish National Flying Club’s Allsworth Trophy in 1985, which he’d won the previous season with top flight flyer, Strider. Stan was president of the Jedburgh club and secretary of the Borders Federation. The cup had last been won by a Jedburgh fancier – Dr Martin – in 1952.
Also in 1985, Girl Guides were celebrating the 75th anniversary of their founding. Hawick Guides and Brownies held a garden competition and the prizes were presented by secretary of the Boys’ Brigade in Hawick, David Morrison. Pictured are Valerie Umpherston, Zoe Barker, Amanda Webb (winner) and Kirsty McGeorge.
