Watching the wildlife

A NEW wildlife group has been set up in Newcastleton, making it Scottish Wildlife Trust’s most southerly Wildlife Watch branch.

The trust’s junior branches help children aged five to 14 get out into the wild, make friends and learn about the countryside.

Three volunteers run the new group and a spokesperson said: “The kids have been having a great time, establishing a base camp in their local woods, building themselves some wooden seats so they can stay comfortable, and starting to really explore their local area.

“They have done a session on animal homes and had a go at making their own dens to see what life is like for wildlife.”

The Newcastleton group becomes the second in the Borders, with one in Galashiels already under way.
