No problem for Houston

LOCAL log house builder Chris Houston is constructing the changing room for the Edinburgh-based artist Craig Coulthard’s Forest Pitch near Selkirk.

Describing it as his company’s most exciting project yet, Mr Houston of Caledonia Log Homes near Jedburgh said: “The shelter has to be low impact and blend in with the environment.”

He is using 24 large Douglas fir posts to hold up rafters and a wooden roof on the 12m x 4m building made of nearly all natural materials.

And after the four football matches have been played on July 21, the pitch will be planted with native trees and the changing room will become a viewing shelter for the public.

The Olympic torch visited the pitch in Clarilaw plantation last week when torchbearer Tom Holligan, a 200m sprinter from Edinburgh, carried the flame through the woods onto the pitch, where he lapped it a couple of times.
