Horse festival call

ORGANISERS of the Borders’ successful Festival of the Horse are inviting anyone who would like to take part to get in touch.

The initiative of the Borders branch of the British Horse Society, specifically Ann Fraser, has grown since its inception in 2001 in response to the damaging effects of foot and mouth disease that year.

The 11-day event traditionally falls at the end of May, taking in the annual horse trials at Floors Castle, Kelso and races in the same town, and featuring popular guided rides.

Mrs Fraser said: “I’m sure there are people out there who want to be part of it but don’t know how to do it. Anyone who would like to advertise with us or offer taster sessions or demonstrations or anything they think could be of interest should get in touch.”

The event is a day longer next year, running from May 17 to 27, and will include the bank holiday Monday. More of the popular guided rides are planned and the volunteer organisers hope to organise a “tilting” taster session too.

Anyone interested in taking part in the festival should contact Mrs Fraser by email at abfraser@btinternet.com
