Association is buzzing ahead of talk on the future of bees
THE future of bees and beekeeping will be the subject of a talk in Peebles on Monday (October 8).
Retired national bee inspector for England and Wales, Richard Ball’s seminar is part of the Scottish Beekeeping Association’s (SBA) autumn lecture tour.
An SBA spokesperson said: “The bee decline has been making news over the last few years: around a third of the food on our plates is there because bees pollinate the plants that produce it. We still don’t know all of the reasons behind the decline in the numbers of bees and other pollinators, but many research projects are now trying to find the answer – the future of our food supply depends on it.”
The talk is being hosted by the Lamancha and Peeblesshire beekeeping associations who say anyone with an interest in bees, agriculture and horticulture is welcome.
The free lecture starts at 7.30pm in the Macfarlane Hall.
