Work to revitalise the Ettrick and Yarrow Valleys continues as locals advertise for a new coordinator to drive plans forward.
In 2010 LEADER funding and support from Buccleuch Estates and the Southern Upland Partnership saw development worker Julie Nock survey and work with the community to come up with ideas.
The Ettrick and Yarrow Community Company was formed and Julie further developed some of the suggestions last year.
Now the local company plans to interview hopefuls for the two-year coordinator post on Monday (May 19).
The new employee’s remit will include developing two off-road cycle paths and a circular off-road walkway around St Mary’s Loch, as well as trying to push forward plans for a new road linking the top of Ettrick with the A708 near Moffat.
New interpretation boards for the valleys have been written and designed and one of the new coordinators’s jobs will be to find funding to install them.
The possible valleys’ hydro scheme has been kicked into touch after locals decided the timescale for a return on investment was too long.
But company chairwoman Vicky Davidson said: “The company remains interested in generating a sustainable source of funding if a suitable opportunity can be found.”
She confirmed the company has yet to establish a permanent office space of its own within the valleys, but has funding to do it.
