Talbot’s Buccleuch preview for star album

IRISH folk star Heidi Talbot heralds the release of her new album with an appearance at Langholm’s Buccleuch Centre.
Angels Without Wings comes out on February 18, and is a collection of original songs from the world of traditional folk music.
Impressively, it features a host of big names including Mark Knopfler, Phil Cunningham, Michael McGoldrick, Boo Hewerdine and King Creosote.
The album was recorded live in Glasgow’s new Gorbals Sound Studios, with Heidi and her husband John McCusker believing it would capture the spontaneity of performance.
Heidi said: “If people made mistakes we’d just keep going. On some of the tracks you can even hear the harmonium creaking. These guys are friends, they all give their opinion.”
Born in County Kildare, Heidi grew up in a musical household, and began singing as a child in the church choir her mother played organ and sang for.
After finishing school, she spent time in New York, where she joined the Irish-American group Cherish The Ladies.
Her solo 2008 breakthrough In Love And Light won her international acclaim, including a US Indie Acoustic Award.
Collaborations with Eddi Reader, Idlewild and Drever, McCusker & Woomble followed, along with multiple BBC Radio 2 Folk Award nominations.
