SEATTLE-based duo Cahalen Morrison and Eli West return to the UK this month, and play Heart of Hawick on Saturday as part of their three-week tour.

The pair will most likely include material from their forthcoming album, Our Lady of The Tall Trees, in their Hawick set.

After the release of debut album, The Holy Coming of The Storm, the multi-instrumentalists recorded sessions with BBC Radio 2 and 3 and appeared at Celtic Connections at the start of the year.

Cahalen’s Scottish connections were highlighted in a BBC Alba documentary tracing his family roots back to the Island of Lewis as he went on a musical pilgrimage there to meet distant relatives and visit the croft where his great-grandfather – a respected Gaelic bard – once lived before emigrating to America.

Cahalen said: “We met some great traditional musicians from the Scottish Borders when we were in Glasgow at the start of the year and they all said their part of the country was every bit as beautiful as the Highlands and islands.

“When we were back home in the States, we bumped into The Hot Seats from Virginia and they more or less said the same thing.

“They had played at the Heart of Hawick venue on their last UK tour and told us they had a ball.

“They had just one cautionary note: ‘watch out for the after-show hospitality in the Exchange Bar next door’ – and we’ll have to pay attention to that as we have an early rise next day to head for the Summertyne Festival in Gateshead.”

Tickets (£12/£10) for the 7.30pm show are available by phoning 01450 360688.
