A BORDERS-BASED performing arts troupe have put in a five-star performance in its first show.
Creative Stage, founded last summer by Selkirk’s Marie McCullough and Oxton’s Katie Robinson – put together the production Magic at the Movies, which was staged at the Volunteer Hall, Galashiels.
Youngsters from the age of three upwards took part in the exciting and energetic programme of scenes from the world of film.
Well-known Selkirk actor and musician John Nichol was impressed by the showcase.
He said: “If Marie and Katie’s aim is to inspire and encourage young people, and to guide them in expressing themselves through drama, song and dance, then Magic at the Movies was positive proof of their success.
“The show began with all of the youngsters on stage singing, appropriately, I’m On My Way, from Disney’s Brother Bear.
“Thereafter, simple but highly-effective staging and lighting provided the perfect backdrop for the various items, which included Peter Pan, The Wizard of Oz, Pinocchio, Grease, Hairspray, Mamma Mia and High School Musical. The kids performed with so much skill, confidence and energy that the atmosphere was electric.
“Towards the end of the show, the accomplished advanced adult group exploded on to the stage with Disco Inferno, before the entire company returned to bring the show to a spectacular conclusion with A Star Is Born.
Clearly, there are plenty of stars in the making thanks to Creative Stage.
“All who witnessed the dazzling spectacle of Magic at the Movies were left in no doubt that Marie and Katie are taking the performing arts to a new level in the Borders. If such a polished performance can be achieved after only three months, we can look forward to a very bright future for the Borders arts scene, and Creative Stage.”
The success of Creative Stage’s first show should be no surprise as both Marie and Katie have impressive CVs in the dance industry.
