Homely treasures on show at Traquair
TRAQUAIR House and its gardens is to host a groundbreaking contemporary art exhibition.
The Innerleithen home will showcase seven Scottish artists’ works titled Reflective Histories.
Comprising a series of artworks and accompanying print works the show reflects the historic and personal heritage of the house, its contents and gardens.
The project between Traquair and Edinburgh Printmakers will also include an interactive programme of workshops, lectures and demonstrations led by the participating artists which will take place throughout the exhibition’s duration.
Sarah Price, director of Edinburgh Printmakers, said: “This new project forms part of the Year of Creative Scotland and is set to be a pioneering example of the joining together of two worlds – the heritage and history of beautiful Traquair House and the imaginative creations of cutting-edge Scottish artists.”
Traquair owner Catherine Maxwell Stuart added: “Traquair has had a long association with the arts and we are particularly excited to be working with the Edinburgh Printmakers and some leading Scottish artists whose works will be inspired by the property itself.
“We are all eagerly anticipating the unveiling of the pieces and discovering how each artist has approached reflecting the heritage and significance of this fascinating historic house in their work.”
The seven artists participating in the project are Calum Colvin, David Faithfull (whose unicorn chess piece can be seen at the top of the page), Duncan Robertson, Helen Douglas, Lesley Logue, Nicola Murray and Rachel Maclean.
Sarah added: “This exhibition aims not only to increase accessibility to contemporary art, but also to show how it can be relevant and engaging for audiences from children right through to seniors.
“The accompanying workshop programme will feature events for people of all ages and the artworks themselves are aimed at having cross-generational appeal.
“It is a truly unique approach and one which we hope people from far and wide will come to enjoy.”
Reflective Histories opens on Sunday, July 1 to September 30.
