Gala youngsters receive call-ups

TWO Galashiels cricketers have been called up to represent Scotland.

Josh Irvine and Caitlin Ormiston were selected for the under-17 men’s and ladies’ squads respectively.

Ormiston, daughter of Gala’s former Scotland B cap David, travelled south to play Staffordshire and Nottinghamshire this week, while Irvine faces Durham in a two-day game starting next Monday at Goldenacre in Edinburgh.

Both have received grants from the Rowan Boland Memorial Trust to aid their development in the game.

Gala Cricket Club captain Stephen Halls paid tribute to the talented teenagers.

He said: “To have two current national players at the club is a major achievement.

“This is Caitlin’s second year with the Scotland team and she will be looking to make a big impact in the games.

“Caitlin works very hard at training and regularly holds her own at the senior club sessions.

“Josh has worked extremely hard over the last couple of years through the Eastern Academy training and sets a great example of what can be achieved.

“He’s got a great talent and his selection for this game will hopefully be the first of many at this level.

“Hopefully, a few supporters will make the short trip to Edinburgh to cheer him on.”
