what's on at the eastgate - april 10
A GAELIC supergroup make a welcome return to Bonchester Bridge’s Laidlaw Hall on Saturday.
Twice nominated for Scottish Folk Band of the Year at the Scots Trad Music Awards, Diamh’s use of pipes and fiddles have led to them playing across Europe and North America.
The band is based in the Western Isles and are headed by frontman Calum Alex who has twice been nominated for STMA’s Gaelic Singer of the Year.
They arrive in Bonchester having played major gigs in Belfast and Glasgow.
Bonchester’s Malcolm MacEwan, better known as Shankend Mac when on stage as a folk entertainer, said: “Diamh were really keen to include the Borders in their tour this year as they really enjoyed the atmosphere last time.
“Their music is powerhouse stuff, and their gigs are an overwhelming and exuberant experience, a must for traditional music lovers.”
The concert starts at 8pm and tickets cost £8 on the door. For more information, phone Malcolm on 01450 860641.
