Alek set to clean up his act
HE was the cleaner whose secret talent was discovered when he had a go on a piano in Glasgow University’s chapel.
Aleksander Kudajczyk has since carved out a career as a classical performer and he returns to the Buccleuch Centre in Langholm tomorrow night.
His story captured the attention of the world’s media in 2007, but Aleksander, who hails from southern Poland, came from a family with a strong musical background.
His talent came to the fore when he was only four years old – he played a few lines of Mozart.
Encouraged by his parents, he started learning to play the piano with his father, who was a music teacher.
He won the Joseph Hofmann contest in his homeland and he was also a strong contender in many other international piano contests.
When he left Poland six years ago for Scotland, he earned money through various part-time jobs, one of which was cleaning, which led to the unearthing of his previous life as a pianist. A book of his story is being written in Poland.
