The popular Mighty Deerstalker off-road run returns to Traquair House on Saturday, March 15.
Now in its eighth year, the event organised by adventure sports company Rat Race, will attract around 3,500 competitors to the 5km (Deerstalker) and 10km (Mighty Deerstalker) runs.
The course which starts and finishes at Scotland’s oldest inhabited house includes steep ascents, water crossings, forest trails and various natural and man-made obstacles including the ‘The Rack’, ‘The Scree’ and ‘The Tunnel’.
Competitors can enter as individuals or as a team.
The Deerstalker is completed in daylight and aimed at those new to off-road running.
The 10km runners complete a 5km circuit and then must tackle the next five kilometres in the dark with only the help of a head-torch to light the way.
The Mighty Beerstalker party follows the race, where there’s food, drink, live music and the prize-giving.
Race creator and Rat Race MD, Jim Mee said: “The Mighty Deerstalker is one of our toughest events as competitors not only have to deal with a gruelling course in the wilds of the Scottish winter, but they must do so in complete darkness.
There is always a fantastic atmosphere on the run as competitors are dressed in tartan and tweed and are very eager to get to the Mighty Beerstalker tent!”
