New chapter opens in library provision

INTEGRATED library and council contact centres have opened in Coldstream and Duns – the first in a major project being carried out by Scottish Borders Council.

The council says the centres now provide a wide range of services under one roof.

The council’s culture executive member Vicky Davidson commented: “Both libraries now have a new lease of life and we have been able to show our commitment to fostering a love of reading and keeping libraries in the heart of these communities.”

Work is under way on similar projects in Kelso and Jedburgh, where the contact centres remain open, but the library service is being provided by a mobile unit.

Innerleithen library will close in March and reopen in April.
