A JEWEL in Scotland's musical crown will entertain Kelso Music Society tomorrow night.
The Dunedin Consort have been going from strength to strength with a series of highly successful recordings of Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and Handel’s Messiah and Acis and Galatea. The Messiah won a Gramophone Award and Acis and Galatea has been shor
tlisted for one.
The consort consists of five voices, led by the clear soprano voice of Susan Hamilton, and they will be singing William Byrd’s Mass for Five Voices, one of the great works of the 16th century, which will be interspersed with Scottish Renaissance motets.
This will be followed by an interestingly varied selection of works, including English part songs and works by Debussy and by the contemporary composers Thea Musgrave and Paul Mottram.
Mottram has written a piece called Falls about characters associated in spectacular ways with the Niagara Falls. The concert ends with one of their party pieces, an entertaining version of Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro overture written for five unaccompanied voices.
Dunedin Consort will perform in Kelso High School at 7.30pm. Tickets available on the door priced at £12, £10 concessions and £3 students.
