AFTER a lengthy and fortunate break avoiding concerts during the worst of the weather, Kelso Music Society is being visited next Sunday, February 14, by the distinguished Carducci String Quartet.
The quartet will perform at Kelso High School Hall in the first of a nine-concert tour in Scotland reaching Nairn and Inverness.

They are one of the most sought-after quartets in the UK and have a very busy schedule which last October included a
lengthy tour of the USA, and playing at the Washington Library of Congress.

They will be playing Haydn, Beethoven and Moeran, a quasi-romantic 20th-century Irish composer and friend of Arnold Bax.

“The quartet comprises two couples, Michelle Fleming and Eoin Schmidt-Martin, and Emma and Matthew Denton. They each have a baby daughter – Daisy, 18 months, to Emma and Matthew, and Evie, 11 months, to Michelle and Eoin,” said a concert spokesperson.

“How babies fit in to a busy performing schedule is a mystery known only to musicians but Evie is said to be quite a little tourer.

“The Carduccis have made a great name for themselves over the last few years and, in addition to giving performances in very important venues and running their own Carducci festival very successfully in Gloucestershire, they have run educational courses up and down the country.

“Last summer they were playing at the celebrated Brinkburn Festival near Rothbury to which they have been invited to return this year.”

The Sunday afternoon concert starts at 2.30pm. It is hoped that in midwinter this will be an easier time for some people to attend. Tickets cost £12, concessions £10 and students £3, while under-14s go free. For further information go to www.kelsomusicsociety.com
