SCOTLAND meets Quebec as two of the most dynamic and engaging traditional Celtic music acts on the circuit join forces at Peebles' Eastgate Theatre on Saturday as part of the Tune Up Tour of 2010.
The performance will feature specially devised collaborations as well as individual sets from one of Scotland’s top young traditional acts Breabach, and Québécois quartet Le Vent Du Nord.

The concert not only looks at the music but also the cultures of both communities, the relationships between them and how they have influenced each other through their music.

One of the most talked about bands on the folk scene, Breabach will preview material from their imminent second album, The Desperate Battle of the Birds, with a line-up of twin bagpipes, fiddle, flute, whistles, guitar, vocals and Scottish step-dance.

The young group have been described as “raucous, energised and exciting” by The Scotsman.

Le Vent du Nord recently released their fifth studio album, La Part du Feu. Centred on the traditional sounds of fiddle, accordion, hurdy-gurdy, guitar and four-part vocals, the new songs combine the band’s trademark upbeat style with added maturity.

Le Vent Du Nord will also share their skills in fiddle-playing and traditional step-dancing during a Saturday afternoon workshop for music enthusiasts of all ages, which begins at 2.30pm in the Eastgate.

The Breabach and Le Vent Du Nord concert begins at 7.30pm with tickets priced at £12, or £10 concessions. Phone 01721 725777 for further details.
