Your paper was kind enough to give considerable coverage to the speech I made at the Melrose Festival installation ceremony (Southern, June 25). Thank you.
But the important paragraph: "The essence of Melrose ... better person" has had its punchline edited out – i.e. "The Christian faith, which the monks of old adhered to, has also been a great blessing to me."

This sentence, if restored, gives a completely different picture of where I am coming from.

The Melrose Festival brochure pulled no punches (page 73): "He became a committed Christian through Alpha in 1995."

Part of the "essence of Melrose", of course, derives from the long occupation and influence of Christian Roman soldiers and Cistercian monks, which are close to the heart of the Melrose Festival.
