We wish to express the concern of all those involved with the school councils at St Peter's and Tweedbank.
The school councils are chosen to represent the views of parents, teachers and support staff. The two schools have a roll of nearly 500 pupils between them.
We are concerned that the document, Transforming Children's Services, could have a huge detr
imental effect on our schools.
Our concerns centre on the reduction in principal teacher posts. For both schools this could result in members of staff being offered redundancy or early retirement. Apart from the obvious stress on those members of staff involved in this process, this would lead to the school losing vital, experienced teachers and increased workload on other less-experienced staff.
All parents will support improvements in schools and teaching standards, but some would say this appears to be cost-cutting dressed up as something else. Some of this cost-cutting would be detrimental to the education of our children.
If Scottish Borders Council wants involvement and dialogue with parents, we would urge it to listen to our concerns.
