In the light of the passing of that world famous Borderer and rugby commentator Bill McLaren, and the news that Hawick will be erecting a statue in memory of the great man, I think that people in all the towns of the Borders should help in the cost of raising such memorial.
Bill, apart from being a Hawick man, was also a wonderful ambassador for Scottish rugby and an internationalist respected by all rugby-playing nations.
Perhaps all the Borders rugby clubs should raise funds to support Hawick in paying for the statue, as we have all benefited from his rugby legacy.
