I was amazed by the letter from Sarita Tilford (TheSouthern, January 28) asking how much effort I have made in my village to promote traffic safety. I have become notorious apparently for my efforts over the years.
Her comment "Whenever I drive through Birgham traffic is moving at a crawl" shows she is not living here. I can assure her I am not the only one to complain about speeding. She should ask around.

How does she know I do not drive? I do not know her nor have I ever met her.

She claims I "relished" the fact that drivers could land over a hedge if they sped in the recent heavy snow and ice. While I would have sympathy for any careful driver having an accident at that time, I do not think sympathy would be deserved by others.

Recently a man told me: "I always think of you when I come through your village." I asked why and he replied: "Because I always slow down." Wonderful.
