I was disturbed to hear that funding was no longer to be made available to allow the CrossReach centre in Galashiels to remain open (TheSouthern, January 21).
Post-natal depression is such a debilitating condition with far-reaching consequences affecting mother and baby at a time when their new relationship should be flourishing.
I was moved to read Dr Lorna Noble's response to the closure of this centre and how its services had helped her.
But even more moving was her plea to the Borders community: "Could 700 people be found who could give £100 each?"
Would CrossReach commit to keeping this centre open if sufficient funds could be
raised?
Selkirk Council of Churches
has in the past donated to
the Bluebell campaign initiated
by CrossReach to raise funds
for precisely this type of work and I'm sure others have contributed too.
Surely we can find enough organisations such as churches, Rotary Clubs and other societies as well as concerned individuals to once more support this vital work which is after all benefiting us – the people that live in the Borders? I'm willing to be one of the 700. As Lorna says: "There has to be a way."
