IN 1970, a young Tyneside guitarist named Rod Clements wrote a song called Meet Me On The Corner which later became a top-10 hit for his band Lindisfarne, paving the way for the group's many years of international success.
Three decades later, the track is a perennial favourite of the airwaves and Rod is one of the most widely-respected figures in British folk roots, both as an artist in his own right and through his associations with such seminal figures as Bert Jansc
h and Thea Gilmore, topping the charts with Ralph McTell and touring the world with Pentangle.
His career reads like a who's who of contemporary British folk roots.
After three decades in the business, spanning more than 30 albums and several chart hits, Rod is a consummate artist who has never rested on his laurels, either as a songwriter or as a live performer.
His critically-acclaimed 2000 release Stamping Ground was a collection of quality new songs featuring ex-Lindisfarne colleagues Dave Hull-Denholm and Ian Thomson, former Long Ryder Sid Griffin, ex-10cc drummer Paul Burgess and Thea Gilmore on vocals.
Odd Man Out followed in 2006 to rave reviews and was described by BBC Radio Two as "lyrically adept rock-blues, dark balladry and European noir from the ex-Lindisfarne and Jack the Lad founding member with an illustrious folk-roots back history".
Now, Rod is returning to his roots with the re-release of his 1994 debut solo album under the new title, One Track Mind 2008.
The record features all 17 tracks from two previous versions, including both recordings of No Turning Back and bonus tracks from its second release in 2001.
Also appearing are solo performances of two old Rod Clements compositions, Blues For a Dying Season and A Dream Within a Dream, neither of which has previously had an official release.
To mark the release, Rod teams up with the String Jam Club once again for a gig in Galashiels next weekend, where fans can expect the classic slide-driven blues, folk and rock sound that has defined encompassed his career as a solo artist.
He plays at the Salmon Inn at 8pm on Saturday, August 30. Tickets priced £9 on sale at the venue. For more information visit www.rodclements.com or telephone 01750 720538.
