Drama at Bowhill
The latest spoof from the originators of the West End and Broadway hit The 39 Steps, is set to be performed outdoors at Bowhill gardens on Sunday.
The Prisoner of Zenda will feature the fun and foolishness that has become the hallmark of North Country Theatre.
The ultimate in swashbuckling romance, the story tells the tale of British Aristocrat Rudolph Rassendyll, who is distantly related to the royal family of Ruritania. When visiting for the coronation of his cousin the Crown Prince, he is discovered to be a double for the drunken and dissolute monarch.
Rebellion, romance and mistaken identity follow as the hero saves the day in swashbuckling style with subterfuge and swordplay. Meanwhile, the beautiful Princess Flavia is forced to choose between her heart and her duty.
Directed by Nobby Dimon, familiar to Border audiences from 2001: A Space Oddity, this latest show is accessible, visually very funny and genuinely original.
The show starts at 7pm and tickets are available from Bowhill on 01750 22204.
