THE exotic Brazilian martial art and dance form of Capoeira will be on show in the Borders later this month.
Running as part of a special summer school in dance and Capoeira, it will take place at the Studio on the Green in Selkirk from July 14 to July 18.
The programme will be led by dancer and choreographer, Jenna Agate, together with her son and Capoeira expert, Yan Agate.
This will be a great opportunity in the Borders to participate in a week of dance and movement activities that will include some experience and practice of Capoeira.
Junior dancers will have taster sessions in Capoeira, movement skills and dance improvisation as well as the opportunity to play music on Brazilian instruments.
Senior dancers can take a daily class in Capoeira practice, learning some of the moves and music, and then move on to choreographic work that will integrate the Capoeira study with contemporary dance and release technique leading to the creation of new dance material.
Both junior and senior dancers will show their work at the end of the week to an invited audience of family and friends.
Jenna has been dancing and choreographing for more than 20 years and has extensive experience in the community and professional fields of dance. Yan has been a practicing Capoeirista for almost 10 years. He teaches the form and works with Capoeira Mestres in Brazil, Australia and New Zealand.
This is a unique opportunity for local dancers to work with an experienced practitioner.
More details and booking is available on 01750 21997.
