A TRADITIONAL song education teaching pack for primary schools across the Borders was launched last week at Newcastleton Village Hall in partnership with Newcastleton Traditional Music Festival.
The pack and double-CD, which is part of the 'Borders Traditions' CD label, is a compilation of traditional songs performed by Newcastleton Primary School, the Galashiels and Hawick 'Sing-up' Choirs, Innerleithen Fisherlassies Choir and an adult singing group.
All the songs included on the CD are those that Susie Kelly, Traditional Song Development Worker with Scottish Borders Council's Arts Development Team, has been teaching various pupils and adult singing groups in the region for the last couple of years.
Funded by the Scottish Arts Council's Youth Music Initiative (YMI), Susie's role is to help keep Scottish Traditional singing alive in the Borders by visiting primary schools and working with teachers to tutor pupils in Scottish (and other cultures') traditional songs and games.
