NEWTOWN St Boswells and District Horticultural Association's 124th annual flower show was held on Sunday in the Community Wing.
Despite the poor weather this summer, a near record number of 380 entries were received.
The cups were presented by the Rev. Bruce Neill, who retired as minister of the parishes in 2007. Mr Neill also presented a basket arrangement of flowers to Christine Hughes who, having given sterling service to the association over many years, has decided to call it a day at the age of 99.
Prizewinners: novice cup and novice flower cup – Mrs F. Wilkie; challenge cup for sweet peas, challenge cup for annuals, rosebowl for roses, George Mitchell Cup for dahlias, trophy for most points in flower section and the Turnbull Shield for most points in flowers and vegetables were all won by Mr J. H. Wear.
Challenge cup for bowl of flowers – Margaret Evans; Miss Cochrane Cup for second highest points in flower section – Mr B. and Mrs M. Evans; Mrs Nancy Stewart Cup for best exhibit in flowers – Mr T. Mitchell; Alasdair Hewat Cup for onions – shared by Mr W. Byers and Mr G. Blyth.
Challenge cup for vegetables, Smailholm Cup for most points in vegetables, William Small Trophy for best exhibit were won by G. Blyth, who also won a new class for a tray of organic vegetables, donated by Borders Organic Gardeners.
Rosebowl for best exhibit in floral art – Patsy Blacklock; challenge cup for most points in floral art and for most points in handicrafts were both won by Anne Turnbull. Turnbull Salver for most points overall in industrial section and rosebowl for most points in baking – Anne Smith.
Children who won cups – Lewis Turnbull, Jennifer Irons, Jessica Lemmon, Alice Magee and Primary 3/4 at St Boswells Primary School.

Most points in floral art section – Edith Watson; most outstanding exhibit in floral art section – Janice Fish; most points in the industrial section – Fiona Graham; winner of class 212, quick lemon cheesecake – Sarah Blacklock; best exhibit in junior section (10 years and under) – Aimee Martin; best exhibit in junior section (11-16 years) – Hannah Girrity.
