A strong local contingent, combined with players from Denholm, Hawick and Jedburgh, turned out to compete in the Hobkirk Ba' event on Monday.
Play continued from 3.30pm until well after dark. After a hard-fought game, the Doonies emerged worthy victors by five hails to three over the Uppies.

Prominent for the Doonies was Hawick rugby player Sean Linton, who managed a hat-trick of hails and was a constant thorn in the Uppies' side. Keeping it in the family, Jedburgh Grammar School head boy Euan Fowler was delighted when he managed to hail his parents' ba'.

Donors and hailers – Mr and Mrs D. Hedley (golden wedding), down S. Linton; Mr and Mrs W. George (ruby wedding), down E. Mutter; Mr and Mrs K. Taylor (silver wedding), up A. Cook; Mr and Mrs A. Fowler (silver wedding), down E. Fowler; Mr and Mrs J. Dobbie (wedding), down S. Linton; Mr and Mrs A. Robinson (wedding), up T. Millar; community council, up J. Fishwick; Horse and Hound, down S. Linton.
