Volunteers wanted to stand for community council

RESIDENTS are being urged to put their names forward for election as Newtown St Boswells and Eildon community councillors.

Ten members are required and names can be submitted until the closing date, which is noon on Wednesday, July 18.

The community council members get involved in large projects such as organising the Christmas lights, Newtown in Bloom, local paths and children’s playgrounds and more, and help by organising and obtaining grant funding for different projects.

Current secretary Roger French said that it is rewarding work to help people in the village and all age groups are encouraged to stand for election, but particularly young people.

Mr French added it would also be good to see some nominations from Eildon village, as in the in past it has not been represented.

Nomination forms can be obtained from the village newsagent, members of the current community council or the secretary, Mr French, on 01835 823095 or by emailing ntvcc@btinternet.com.

The form is easy to complete and all you need is to be on the electoral register and someone to propose and second you. When completed, forms should be sent to the Returning Officer Councillor Gordon Edgar, c/o Scottish Borders Council offices in Newtown St Boswells.
