customers and staff of a Lauder supermarket had a lucky escape after a car crashed through its shop window last night.

No-one is believed to have been injured in the incident which saw a 78-year-old woman lose control of her Toyota vehicle and smash into the Co-op shop, which doubles up as the town’s petrol station.

The A68 accident happened at around 6pm and no-one was injured, although the pensioner from Haddington had to be taken to Borders General Hospital for shock.

She was later charged with careless driving.
