The taxpayer pays, as usual

The Scottish Borders Council chief executive Tracey Logan says that being fined £250,000 is disappointing.

I say it is disgusting that the taxpayer, not the council, is being punished as the council has no money of its own – the only money it has is public money.

If you or I were fined, we would take the punishment and pay the fine, we would not have the fine paid for us. With this in mind, I say as a taxpayer that our money should not be used to pay this fine, we should not be getting punished. It should be and must be the people who did wrong that are punished and they must pay the fine imposed.
