Green light for £5.5m school

LANGHOLM will become a modern educational hub, according to a local councillor, after plans for a new £5.5million primary school was given the go-ahead.

Work is expect to begin early next year on the site within the grounds of Langholm Academy and Eskdale Sports and Leisure Centre. And pupils should move into the new facility by January 2014.

Langholm councillor Denis Male said: “Whilst it has taken longer than anticipated to get the new Langholm Primary School to the tender stage, it has been worth the wait.

“Langholm will become a modern educational hub providing the best possible education for all the children in the valley.”

The primary school was due to stand alone and would have taken up most of the Academy playing field. However, a new design has allowed sports to still be played during construction.
