FRAMED. Buccleuch Hunt young entry puppy day. (June 1982)

The kennels at St Boswells – now a housing estate – was the venue in July 1982 for the Duke of Buccleuch’s Hunt puppy show.

Huntsman Lionel Salter confirmed to our reporter that 23 couples were shown, an increase on the previous year. There were 11 pairs in the doghounds section and 12 in the section for bitches.

We reported how puppy walkers, hunt servants and guests watched with interest as judges Jamie Cameron and Captain Ronnie Wallace scrutinised the young hounds.

The results may bring memories back to some of our readers.

Doghounds – 1, Lechdale (walked by Miss W. Simpson); 2, Leopard (Mr H. Price); 3, Grimston (Mrs A. Wauchope); 4, Grappler (Mrs W. Dodds); 5, Lucas (Mrs R.B. Bruce).

Bitches – 1, Legend (Mr M. H. Price); 2, Liberty (Mrs A. McTaggart); 3, Lotus (Mrs J. Scott Plummer); 4, Lottie (Mrs G. Anderson); 5, Locket (Mrs J. Millar).
