Carol’s festive centenary birthday
a resident of Craw Wood care home has become a centenarian on Christmas Day, writes Kenny Paterson.
Carol Johnstone enjoyed her 100th birthday with fellow residents and staff at the Tweedbank home.
Born in Dundee on December 25, 1912, almost two years before the start of the First World War, Carol was the youngest of nine children.
She moved to the Borders with a group of young working women, finding a job at the Jedburgh Silk factory.
Carol then emigrated to Australia in the late 1950s with husband Jim, travelling by ship, and spending around three years Down Under. Carol and Jim returned to live in London and eventually moved back to Jedburgh.
Jim died in 1990, but the grandmother has remained in the region which has become her home.
Mandy Flockhart, senior care worker at Craw Wood, said: “Carol enjoyed a Christmas dinner and had plenty of fun with her fellow residents and staff.”
